The review was announced last March at the time of the provincial budget to help government and the Foundation's Board of Directors plan future directions. One goal was to broaden the vision of SHF to support a wider range of heritage, in addtion to built heritage like natural and cultural heritage initiatves, including languages and landscapes. Ghost Towns on the Prairies by ahsk.ca

While motoring across the prairies today it's easy to notice the many skeletons of once vibrant farmsteads and communities. Efficiencies in farming and improvements in transportation over the past half century have meant growing farms and fewer farmers. Merle Massey reports on ActiveHIstory.ca that a new tourism destination in Saskatchewan is our ghost towns.  http://activehistory.ca/2012/01/sad-empty-places-marketing-ghost-towns-in-saskatchewan/#more-7011

Modelling Saskatchewan's Built Heritage by ahsk.ca

Thanks to volunteers in Saskatchewan and from as far away as Ontario, Newfoundland and Australia, several hundred heritage buildings now appear on Google Earth. Modelling Project coordinator, Gregg Babish, avocetgeo@gmail.com hopes that other people will consider learning to model and post buildings. It is not difficult to do. The Society supports this project because it represents another way in which our province's built heritage can be demonstrated and preserved. That's our job. There were over 3,000 grain elevators in Saskatchewan in 1930. By 2004, there were less than 200. Why not work to preserve this important part of our history. Modeller Julio Signorelli has posted more that 300 buildings in Saskatchewan communities on Google Earth. Here is his now growing collection of elevators: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/cldetails?mid=741deed0d923ee0554cecbd9722c1db6
