Heritage Architecture Excellence Awards by ahsk.ca

The Hononourable Mrs. Vaughn Solomon Schofield presented five Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan Heritage Architecture Excellence Awards at Government House in Regina today. The Awards went to Redman House Bed and Breakfast and Dining Establishment in Maple Creek, Bloodline Tattoo Company in Moose Jaw, Folgizan Insurance Inc. at the Binning Block in Moose Jaw, Stone House in Moosomin, and All Saints Church of England at Cannington Manor. The Awards celebrate outstanding contributions in building restoration, renovation, adaptive re-use, sensitive new construction, long-term stewardship, and built-heritage programming. Exhibit Celebrates 25th Anniversary of Society by ahsk.ca

Hundreds of photographs depicting Saskatchewan’s architectural history are now on display until July 31st at Government House in Regina. Those attending the exhibit may learn about Saskatchewan’s amazing built heritage through viewing images of churches, homes, hotels and schools from more than three dozen communities. Presentation of the images, as well as examples of bricks from six Saskatchewan plants, is being made possible through financial support from the Community Pride program of the Community Initiatives Fund. The exhibit actually celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Architectural Heritage Society of Saskatchewan.

Heritage Homes Tour in Moose Jaw by ahsk.ca

After a ten year hiatus, Heritage Moose Jaw brought back the Heritage Home Tour on Sunday. It allowing people to visit some of the most historic buildings in the city. The types of buildings varied from heritage homes to condos in an old building to an upper space of a building on Main Street. Gladys MacDonald spoke about the history of the Wakamow Heights Bed and Breakfast when tourists visited there. The building, built in 1902 by Willington White, was one of five historic locations in Moose Jaw that people had the chance to tour on Sunday afternoon. Moose Jaw to Develop Standards and Guidelines by ahsk.ca

During Monday’s regular council meeting, the majority of council approved a municipal heritage advisory committee recommendation authorizing administration to proceed with the development of a civic heritage policy incorporating standards and guidelines for the architecture of façades in Moose Jaw’s downtown heritage district.
